Sting! XV: I Cover the Waterfront... An Evening of Art, Music and Performance at Boston’s Beehive

The Beehive's 15th Installment in Their Continuing Art Series

July 15, 2013 - PRLog -- On Tuesday, July 23rd, 2013, from 6:00PM - 8:00PM, The Beehive's co-owner and resident curator Jennifer Epstein and special guest curator Coe Lapossy will co-host the 15th installment in The Beehive's continuing art series entitled Sting! 15: I Cover the Waterfront. The eight artists featured in “I Cover The Waterfront” show us views of small backyard moments with the sprinkler, as well as create new mythologies around the power of water. These views of water reference intimate experiences paired with the sensation of vastness, evoking the experience of feeling so small next to the ocean's infinite horizon.  Picnics at the beach, the kiddie pool in your back yard, and remote seaside towns are all on view together in this playful, summer show of painting and photography. The show takes its title from the bestselling 1932 novel by Max Miller, “I Cover The Waterfront”, which most famously became the title of a jazz standard ‘covered’ by everyone from Billie Holliday to Frank Sinatra.  These artists similarly cover the waterfront of Boston, Miami, Newfoundland, Ohio, and beyond, bringing us views of water both recognizable and abstract.

The ongoing Sting! series always signifies the launch of a new art installation at The Beehive and highlights an evening of great live entertainment, food & libation specials along with amazing art! For this 15th installment, Jennifer Epstein joined forces with Coe Lapossy to bring together a remarkable group of artists (many of whom are working here in Boston and are recent graduates from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, or who otherwise have connections to the city). Guest curator Coe Lapossy is a Boston artist with roots in Ohio where she began her studies at Kent State University’s painting and art history programs.  She recently received her Masters of Fine Arts from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.  Lapossy currently has work on view in the Museum of Fine Arts Courtyard Gallery for another show she co-curated titled “Liking is For Cowards. Go For What Hurts.”  Lapossy approaches curation as an extension of her art practice and explores similar themes and connections such as breaching the spaces between literature, music, and visual arts.  She can be found working in her studio in Brookline Village.
