CHESTER, U.K. - July 15, 2013 - PRLog -- CANNY housewives have dramatically changed the way they shop as a result of rising prices, stagnant or falling incomes and the nation’s economic challenges, according to Chester’s Forum Shopping Centre Manager Lawrence Allen.

Shoppers now spend much more time searching for and locating the best prices and make their purchases from a wider range of retail outlets to ensure they get the very best value for money, said Mr Allen, a retail expert  who has worked in the sector for 25 years.

“I’ve noticed a significant change in the way shoppers behave as a result of the financial pressures since 2008,” he added. “The modern housewife knows what she is looking for and understands how to get the best value for money.

“From what I have observed, more of them no longer rely on a weekly or fortnightly visit to a major supermarket. Instead they will purchase their supplies from a range of value-for-money outlets to get the very best overall deal.

“Before making a purchase shoppers will have checked out the price at a variety of retailers and will spread their purchases over a range of shops to achieve the very best price and quantity.”

Cut-price outlets like Aldi and Lidl have reported significant increases in sales recently with customers attracted by their competitive pricing policies.

And Mr Allen said the Forum’s cut-price outlets were also attracting a wide range of bargain-seeking customers.

“The financial pressures of recent years have affected a wide range of people from all walks of life,” he added. “As a result we’ve seen quite a few new faces in the Forum including people you might not expect to see in a cut-price store.

“However, here at the Forum, we are very proud of our cut-price reputation.”
