07.12. 2013 / Toronto, Canada – The successful 12-­‐part web series Versus Valerie has just released its 10th episode of Season 1 and approaches the milestone of 500,000 views across the series’ channels (currently at 485,000 – expected to reach 500,000 within the week).

The series follows the life of Geekie Award-­‐winning, fictional YouTube vlogger Valerie Lapomme (played by Hannah Spear) as she deals with life on and off screen. Each episode is “flavored” by a different aspect of geek/nerd culture including Batman, Doctor Who, Mortal Kombat, Star Wars and Star Trek.

“There are a lot of rewarding references for geeks and nerds in the series, but they only add to the complex narrative of a 20-­something woman trying to find her place in the world,” describes series creator Simon Fraser.

The series was also recently renewed by funding partner the Independent Production Fund (http://www.ipf.ca), who will continue to support the series for Season 2.

Versus Valerie features many collaborations with geek celebrities like Mark Meer (voice of Commander Shepard in Mass Effect) and YouTube stars like Peter Chao (pyrobooby), Craig Benzine (Wheezy Waiter), Corey Vidal (ApprenticeA), the cast of 3KillaBytes, Will Conlon from the web series Out With Dad, and musician Alan Frew (Glass Tiger).
