Franklin County Fair Opens July 13 with Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony Featuring Local Dignitaries

Franklin County’s Bicentennial Farm Family Will Be Recognized; This Year’s Fair Runs July 13-20 in Hilliard, Ohio
 
COLUMBUS, Ohio - July 11, 2013 - PRLog -- The Franklin County Fair (http://www.fcfair.org/) opens tomorrow, Sat., July 13 with an opening day ribbon-cutting ceremony that will take place at noon. Featured guests include local dignitaries such as Sheriff Zach Scott, County Engineer Dean Ringle, Franklin County Commissioners and David T. Daniels, director, the Ohio Department of Agriculture.

As part of the opening day ceremony, a special presentation will be made to Franklin County’s Bicentennial Farm family, recognizing them for meeting the 200-year milestone. The Bicentennial designation is a new part of the Ohio Century Farm program, developed by The Ohio Department of Agriculture  as a way “to honor these families for their enduring legacy to our state.”

Also on opening day, there will be a “Runway on the Midway” fashion show for kids at noon, a pie-eating contest featuring pies from Der Dutchman at 4 p.m., and the crowning of the 2013 Junior Fair King and Queen at 7 p.m. At 7:30 p.m., fairgoers can enjoy motocross at the grandstand.

On tap at this year’s fair is a slate of entertainment including acts that are new to the fair, as well as some enduring favorites. In addition to the concert by New Albany’s own pop/rock group and Billboard sensation New Hollow, who will appear in concert Tues., July 16, the fair will feature acts from around the country. Entertainment is included in the admission price. Featured acts include No Joe’s Clown Circus, Northern Ohio Outlaws (Cowboy Mounted Shooting), and the 122nd Army Band.

Other highlights of this year’s Franklin County Fair include:

*The Lima Company Memorial, “The Eyes of Freedom,” a nationally travelling military tribute to Columbus-based Lima Company which will be on display all week
*A National Tractor Pullers Association sanctioned Truck and Tractor Pull, Motocross, Harness Racing, and Demolition Derby
*A “Family Day” on Sun., July 14 featuring discounted day-long ride wristbands, “Minute to Win It”-style games, and many other family fun activities
*A “Senior Day” on Tues., July 16, featuring a pancake breakfast, health screenings, games,  gift bags and much more for seniors
*An “Armed Forces Day” on Thurs., July 18, with activities to recognize and support those currently serving and veterans; features some great military displays, presentations, and lots of military and veteran resources,  as well as a concert by the 122nd Army Band and a patriotic sing-along
*The Farm Olympics, where kids participate in all kinds of traditional farm chores, with a twist; always creates great photo opportunities

Hours and Admission

The Franklin County Fair Daily admission is per person: Sat. July 13 – Thurs. July 18 – $5.00; Friday July 19 & Sat. July 20 - $6.00. Admission includes all attractions and entertainment, unless otherwise noted. Ride tickets or wristbands may be purchased separately. Parking is free.
