Go Big AND Go Home: Animal Welfare Groups Collaborate to Increase Impact

APPLETON, Wis. - July 11, 2013 - PRLog -- July 10, 2013- Appleton, WI – Two area animal welfare groups, Cats Anonymous and Wish Upon a Paw, are teaming up to more than double the number of feral and community cats helped in a single clinic on Saturday, July 27, 2013.  Rallying around a “Go Big AND Go Home” sports theme, Natalie Nelson from Wish Upon A Paw explains, “There’s a good-natured competition to see who can fundraise the most, but ultimately the real winners are the over- 200 community cats who will get the spay/neuter and vaccines they need, then return to the outdoor homes where they’re already happy and healthy.”

Nelson cites the additional volunteer help from several high volume spay/neuter vets from the Madison area, as well as borrowed equipment from other area organizations for helping make such a large endeavor possible.

Lisa Kay Peters from Green Bay-based Cats Anonymous says, “Our team is really excited and grateful for the opportunity provided by Globe University of Appleton to use such a large clinic space. It will not only help reduce our waiting list of over 900 cats, but also provide a great  experience should we ever get closer to the dream of being able to host larger TNR clinics on a regular basis.”

A feral cat has not had human social interaction at an early age and as a result, is 'wild' and wary of human interaction. A free-roaming cat can be feral or friendly. Trap-Neuter-Return programs humanely trap and bring the cats to a veterinarian to be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and eartipped (universal symbol for a sterilized cat), and returned to their outdoor home.

Anyone wishing to support the efforts of either or both programs can find their fundraising competition at HuTerra, the Charitable Social Network: www.huterra.com/community/gobigandgohome/fundraisers
