Bryant & Stratton College offers students a Better Start for today's job market

July 12, 2013 - PRLog -- SYRACUSE, N.Y. – There is a disconnect between what employers are looking for and the skills young professionals think they possess. According to a new survey from Wakefield Research, 80 percent of 18-34-year-olds feel they are job-ready and possess all of the skills, experience and education needed to advance in their desired career path or obtain their next job. Meanwhile, almost 40 percent of employers say the main reason for job openings is a lack of skills among entry-level applicants, according to data released by global management consulting firm McKinsey & Company.

To help close the gap between how job seekers view their employability skills and what employers actually value, Bryant & Stratton College will host “Employability Week” July 15-19 at both Syracuse campuses. The week features free career information events including alumni panels; workshops on resume building and interviews; a professional-dress fashion show and more for students, new graduates, job seekers and local business leaders, as part of the Bryant & Stratton College Employability Series. This series is dedicated to helping students get a better start to become career-ready upon graduation. By focusing on the development of employability skills, the College helps students develop technical, industry-specific knowledge and soft skills.

Over the past five years, the Bryant & Stratton College Syracuse campuses have helped their students get started in a career, achieving an overall job placement rate of 88 percent in their field of study, more than 30 percent higher than the national average for college graduates.Nearly three-quarters of graduates began their careers within 90 days.
