Portable Solar Powered Power Station
FERNDOWN, U.K. - July 11, 2013 - PRLog -- Following the successful launch of the its Rapid Deployment CCTV tower in 2012, OnGarde Ltd identified the need for a portable stand-alone power source on construction sites or plant storage areas in remote areas. In these locations, where standard mains power is not readily available, running standard diesel generators full time is expensive, creates unnecessary noise and exhaust pollution and can be impractical. However, by using the Hybrid Power Station (HPS), it is possible for a full diesel tank, combined with the other available power sources, to power a single tower for up to 3 months between refuelling and servicing. With both fuel and service included in the cost, the HPS is an extremely competitive option when considering powering the OnGarde tower in remote locations.

The OnGarde HPS provides a power management system that runs autonomously, with no action required by site staff. By supplying a rapid deployment simple power control system with a high level of reliability, the OnGarde HPS is truly a plug, play and forget power solution. The system also has an additional output to allow a single HPS to power two OnGarde towers.

OnGarde has also recognised that over a 24 hour period the power requirements on a site can change, and as a result the Power Station has a hybrid power design that uses rechargeable batteries and a silent running generator to meet the challenges of higher loads over short periods or low loads over longer autonomous run times.

The essence of the OnGarde Power Station system is to harness the free energy of the sun, and to achieve this OnGarde uses a solar panel electricity system, also known as solar photovoltaics (PV), capturing the sun's energy using solar photovoltaic cells. The cells convert the sunlight into electricity, which is stored in the battery system and is the primary power supply.  Only when this power storage system falls below a predefined level will the onboard generator be required to automatically produce the power required to run the equipment that is connected.

As the amount of solar energy available from the sun can vary with weather conditions, the innovative design of the OnGarde Power Station ensures that it will always capture the maximum amount available. These cells also don't necessarily need direct sunlight to work, as they can still generate electricity on a cloudy day. To achieve this OnGarde use 3 solar panels that are incorporated on top of a vandal proof cabinet that has been designed to either sit alongside the CCTV tower or can be easily located safely elsewhere on a site. When not in use the solar panels are designed to fold away safely and locked for easy transit.

Mike Fleck, Director, said “Having supplied our CCTV security systems to many clients in the construction industry, we have repeatedly found that connecting to a power source can prove difficult in remote areas, which is why we have designed this innovative portable solar powered solution. Not only does it get around the problem of installing our equipment on sites with no mains supply, it also utilises free, clean energy. As our Power Station is available for both hire and purchase, it offers an economical and environmentally friendly power solution for both short and long term applications.”

OnGarde Ltd is based in Poole, Dorset and are suppliers of rapid deployment CCTV towers that provide a cost effective site security solution.
