New Energy Source for drought stricken farmers

With water shortage farmers go to wells and ground water fuel and energy costs become a large factor.

As irrigation districts run low or run out of water more farmers and agribusiness are pumping ground water to irrigate their crops. Many are using diesel or propane, running a large motor 24 hours a day is very expensive.

What are the alternatives? The answer lies in the renewable energy sources, solar and    wind.  The equipment may seem expensive, but lets take a good look.  First how much power do you need, lets say you have a well with a 40hp electric motor. There are aprox 750 watts per hp. so 40x750 = 30,000 watts or 30 kw, while this will run you   system alone it may not start the motor.  With a grid tied system the lock rotor for starting the motor comes from the grid.  So you decide to purchase some of the power from the grid and generate the balance, this makes sence, the smaller equipment is less expensive.  So lets go with a 20 kw grid tied system, the cost of equipment and instalation for a 20 kw wind generating system is 60,588.00 dollars, ( www.hightecenergy.com ).

Now lets compare it to a diesel motor, a large diesel moter will consume around $500.00 per day of fuel. Now run the pump for 30 days  500* 30 = $15,000 dollars.

wind system cost 60,588.00/ 30 days fuel cost = 4 months of fuel pays for the equipment.
