To help promote consumer advocacy and patient choice, Medtrade has partnered with the online community Wheel:Life to offer the Wheel:Life Community Expo and Welcome Reception on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 as part of the 2013 Medtrade tradeshow event.

ALPHARETTA, Ga. - July 10, 2013 - PRLog -- To help promote consumer advocacy and patient choice, Medtrade has partnered with the online community Wheel:Life to offer a special program for consumers, caregivers and clinicians in the Orlando metro area.   The Wheel:Life Community Expo and Welcome Reception will take placeon Wednesday, October 9, 2013 from 4-6 pm as part of the 2013 Medtrade tradeshow event.

Community participants [consumers, caregivers & clinicians] will enjoy:

-          A complimentary one-day Medtrade Expo Pass  valid for the full day event

-          A consumer-focused educational program on locally-available products and health services

-          Meet-and-greet reception with complimentary food, beverages and fun!

"The trade organizations do a great job of looking out for the interests of the industry, but working closely with consumer organizations has never been more important," said Kevin Gaffney, group show director, Medtrade. "Consumer groups represent the patients who rely on our products. Legislators need to realize that their policies affect real people, many of whom are in vulnerable situations. Organizations such as Wheel-Life are getting that message out to Capitol Hill, and they are helping both consumers and professionals find appropriate solutions in the process."

“Wheel:Life exists to improve life and lifestyles for everyone who uses a wheelchair, and we are honored to help introduce the fantastic resources and programs available through Medtrade to the community that we serve,” Wheel:Life director Lisa Wells said.

During the Wheel:Life educational program, notable disability advocates and wheelchair users will take the stage to answer consumer and clinical questions through a moderated speaker panel.  Special guest speakers include:

Marc Buoniconti
If courage is grace under fire, Marc Buoniconti ranks among the bravest men you’ll ever know.  A 1985 spinal cord injury left him unable to move a muscle below his neck.  Yet, each day he moves people; moves them to understand the tragedy of paralyzing SCI -- and to join him in finding its cure.  The son of legendary All-Pro and Hall of Famer linebacker and former Miami Dolphin Nick Buoniconti serves as President for both The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis and The Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis, The Miami Project’s fundraising arm.

Bert Burns
Entreprenuer, Clinician, Paralympian, Father of Twins. Bert Burns had no idea that all of these roles awaited him when he became quadriplegic as a result of an automobile accident during his youth. Burns’ desire to make a positive difference in the lives of people with disabilities led him to create a free motivational program for peer support and rehabilitation groups called Life After Spinal Cord Injury. LASCI is sponsored by UroMed, one of the largest urological supply companies in the country, and has more than 16,000 members worldwide.

Join our community of differently-abled friends, as well as clinicians and caregivers in the Orlando area, as Medtrade connects you with the Wheel:Life support network.  While the program is free for consumers and clinicians, the Wheel:Life Community Reception is an invitation-only private event. A limited number of sponsorships are available for this special event that welcomes the Orlando disability community.  Contact us now to get involved.

Current sponsors include Hollister Incorporated, UroMed, At Home Medical, Guardian Help, Wheel:Life and several Orlando-based healthcare providers.
