LAS VEGAS - July 10, 2013 - PRLog -- Robotic ants. A hidden underground complex. The floating head of Howard Hughes. These are just a few of the strange and wondrous scenes readers of all ages will behold when “Tales from Lost Vegas” debuts at the Vegas Valley Comic Book Fest on Nov. 2. Before that can happen, however, the comic book’s creators are looking to the community for support of its publication, via the popular crowdfunding website Kickstarter.

“Tales from Lost Vegas” is the latest edition in Pop! Goes the Icon’s series of comics benefiting--and commemorating--the Vegas Valley Comic Book Fest. This year’s comic is not only the first full-color book in the series, but also the first all-ages one, telling the story of three middle school friends who discover a lost complex hidden beneath the streets of Vegas, where they encounter unexpected peril and unlikely allies. As with previous editions “Tales from the Boneyard” and “Tales from Fremont Street,” “Tales from Lost Vegas” features all Las Vegas-based creators, including writer Ed Hawkins and artists Justin Ayers, Steve Benton, Daniel Blodgett, Ken Lamug, Jska Priebe and Ashleigh Popplewell.

In previous years, Pop! Goes the Icon has counted on the sponsorship of local businesses to help pay for the printing of the book in order to maximize the donation of proceeds to the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District Foundation, which has received almost $3,000 to date from sales of the books. This year, the Las Vegas-based publisher has launched a Kickstarter campaign in order to involve the greatest number of people in the success of “Tales from Lost Vegas.” The campaign goal is $6,000, which must be raised by Aug. 4 in order for the project to be fully funded.

Rewards include a variety of incentives, from copies of the comic and original pages of art to ads for businesses and commissioned art. Even the smallest reward level, $5, includes a digital copy of “Tales from Lost Vegas,” while the highest level, $4,000, will allow a business or individual “presented by” naming rights on the front cover of the comic.
