RICHMOND, Calif. - July 10, 2013 - PRLog -- (July 5, 2013, Oakland, CA) A celebration of the global hair culture, Black Hair throughout the Diaspora, presented by NaturalSelectionBlog and the Vanguard Board of the Museum of the African Diaspora, takes place on July 12, 2013, 6-10pm at MoAD, 685 Mission Street, San Francisco. The event is produced by Cassidy Blackwell, the Founder of NaturalSelectionBlog, and she will be joined by Celebrity Stylist Felicia Leatherwood, and Jewels Barron, the Creative Director of SheaMoisture. There will also be complimentary drinks, dessert and music.

A presentation of hair throughout the Diaspora will be followed by a panel discussion with Leatherwood and Barron moderated by Cassidy Blackwell. The highlight of the event will be an exhibition of hair honoring various eras of the diaspora. The panelists will discuss hair and culture as models display hair from the eras of diaspora.

Cassidy Blackwell has grown a global audience of readers interested in natural hair, wellness, lifestyle features, travel photography and events since creating the blog in 2009. Natural Selection mission is to empower readers of all ages and cultures to embrace their authenticity through education and celebration of natural hair and lifestyles. Blackwell is known for her ability to build community through events by educating and empowering people to explore cultural differences.

Panelist Felicia Leatherwood began her career in the professional hair industry before transitioning as celebrity personal stylist. As a natural hair advocate, consultant, and licensed cosmetologist Leatherwood works to help women transition to natural hair and encourages women to love their natural hair. Leatherwood has had a successful career as a celebrity stylist with a client list that includes Kim Coles, Jill Scott, Will Smith, Terrence Howard, and Anthony Anderson. Leatherwood’s work has been featured in Peoplemagazine, Essence, InStyle, NAACP Image Awards, and the “Why Did I Get Married” Red Carpet and World Premiere.

SheaMoisture will be represented on the panel by Creative Director, Jewels Barron.
