Local Martial Arts Center “Determined” to develop kids!

July 2013 is Determination Month as part of Martial Arts Studio’s Powerful Words Character Development program! All students will be studying, developing and experiencing powerful life lessons focusing on building their determination, in a fun, powerful and effective manner.  In addition to all of the physical skills that they'll be working on this month, students will be discussing and practicing the following concepts that will help them to appreciate and enjoy the value and benefit of being the kind of person who goes after their goals with purpose, drive and effort and doesn’t quit until it’s achieved. Students will be focusing on the following topics both in and out of class:

•    Determination defined: What do determined people do, think and see?

•    What do I want to achieve? What drives me? How do I set a goal?

•    Strengths and limitations: How do I use my strengths & overcome limits?

•    Risks, rewards, consequences:  What are the results of determination/lack of?

“Research tells us that we can help our children develop determination and grit by promoting a learning and growth mind-set. Our children need to learn that their ability to succeed as well as their competency grows when they show consistent effort. That effort must remain constant even when the goal is challenging. We can also help children develop determination by teaching them goal-setting and goal-getting strategies. We want them to be able to declare their goals and cope with the obstacles that may stand in their way.” says Dr. Robyn Silverman, Lakeway TaeKwonDo's child & adolescent expert, and creator of the Powerful Words Character Development system used at the facility.
