CHICAGO - July 9, 2013 - PRLog -- Singer/songwriters Amy Dixon-Kolar, Patti Shaffner, and Sue Fink --- a.k.a. the SongSisters -- are scheduled to perform two shows at Davenport's Piano Bar and Cabaret, 1383 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Chicago, on Wednesday, July 17th and Thursday, July 25th, at 8:00 pm (with doors opening at 7:30). What makes these shows special is both will be recorded live, by engineer Bruce Roper (founding member of Sons of the Never Wrong). The SongSisters will cherry-pick the best songs from both nights, and with a little post-show mixing in Bruce's studio, they plan to create their first SongSisters live album. Audience members will have the opportunity to be part of that recording, and to pre-order the upcoming CD at a discounted price.

"We are excited about this on so many levels," explains Fink. "All three of us already have our individual recording-studio albums; and that's great for when we perform solo. But when we perform as the SongSisters, audience members want to take that experience home with them. Being able to offer an album of the songs they just heard, in the manner we just performed them... that's key. What we're doing is extending the good time we all just had, extending our connection."

"We're so pleased this will be happening at Davenport's," adds Shaffner. "It's an esteemed venue, offering excellent music programs in a comfortable cabaret setting. The sound is always stellar."

"Plus, audiences are often curious about the recording experience," says Dixon-Kolar. "Of course, studio recording is another animal entirely: you can spend hours fine-tuning, adding other instrumentation... But live, there's a completely different energy, largely created by the audiences. So, our audience members will become part of the recording experience: not just their clapping, but the overall energy they bring to the room. That energy feeds us, we bounce it back and it feeds them... and all that will be part of the recording. You can't see it, but you'll be able to hear it, feel it."

Dixon-Kolar, Shaffner, and Fink have been performing and writing songs for years -- just not with each other. In 2009 Fink was asked to curate an evening for "Live and Unplugged," a music series where singer/songwriters perform "in the round," akin to Nashville song circles. Fink thought that the varied musical styles of friends Dixon-Kolar (traditional and Celtic influences), Shaffner (jazz and folk), and Jeanne T. Arrigo (theater background) -- along with her own quirky tales of love gone wrong -- would make for an interesting mix. Their evening was a success, and they were asked to perform in this configuration at other shows as well.

Arrigo, who also acts throughout Chicagoland in theater and film, decided to concentrate instead on her acting career. The other three continued, finding it interesting to blend their distinctive styles and voices, adding harmonies to each other's songs. Most recently they were joined by special guest Claudia Anderson, who also has a theater, teaching, and cabaret background.

Each artist enjoys performing solo, but sees the possibilities that the SongSisters presents them. "We help each other realize each song's potential, plus we enjoy the camaraderie," Fink comments. In addition to their own songs, the SongSisters create their own take on cover songs, and explore different possibilities of involving their audiences.

Recording engineer Bruce Roper worked with Fink to produce her two full-length CDs, "Damsel in Distress" and "Thoughts at an Intersection." As part of Sons of the Never Wrong, Roper often works with bassist John Abbey, who is also a recording engineer (Kingsize Sound Labs). Dixon-Kolar is currently recording a solo album at Kingsize, and invited Shaffner, Fink, and Claudia Anderson to lay down harmony parts on several songs. Shaffner, who hails from Gary, IN, knows many of the same musicians as well.

"It's all about connectivity in the community," muses Shaffner. "And now were forging a new connection, through these shows and our live recording, with our audience."

To become part of the audience for these shows, reservations are strongly recommended.
