Franklin County Fair Looking for Best Pie and Chili

County Commissioners and County Engineer Serve as Judges for Contests To Take Place July 17-18; This Year’s Fair Runs July 13-20 in Hilliard, Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio - July 8, 2013 - PRLog -- Today, the Franklin County Fair (http://www.fcfair.org/) announced this year’s fair will once again feature both a pie and a chili contest sponsored by Franklin County Government Officials. Playing into the theme of “Farm, Family, Food and Fun,” these food contests are open to entrants who are willing to pay the adult entry fee and purchase a week-long pass to the fair or a membership in the Franklin County Agricultural Society.

“It’s time for pie bakers and chili aficionados to break out their best recipes to impress our esteemed panel of judges! These contests are a hit with fairgoers and are as much about bragging rights as anything,” said Emily Gabriel, president, Franklin County Agricultural Society. “It’s a chance for local cooks to show off their wares and for our county commissioners and engineer to get involved in the fun of the fair.”

The Franklin County Commissioners’ Berry Pie Contest will take place Thurs., July 18 at 11:00 a.m. The contest is judged by the Commissioners and scores are based on criteria including appearance, taste and texture of both the crust and the filling. First prize is $40. For full details, visit http://www.fcfair.org/senior-fair/department-10-home-and-fine-arts.

The Chili Contest is sponsored by Franklin County Engineer Dean Ringle and judged by local firefighters. Entries may be red, white, hot or mild and will be judged on overall taste. Entries must be brought to the Edwards Building by 5 p.m. Weds., July 17. Samples will be given when judging concludes. First prize is $40. For full details, visit http://www.fcfair.org/senior-fair/department-10-home-and-fine-arts.

“2013 marks the 10th annual Chili Cook-off at the Franklin County Fair,” said Franklin County Engineer Dean Ringle.  “I’ve enjoyed sponsoring this event every year.  We’ve had some really good competition and some great chili to judge.  Each year the entries are judged by local firemen, sometimes with guest appearances by Sheriff Deputies when the firemen are called away. Come on out to the Franklin County Fair and, if you think you make the best chili around, enter the contest and show off your cooking skills!”
