PORT JERVIS, N.Y. - July 8, 2013 - PRLog -- Local 17 of Laborers’ International Union of North America, which represents over 1,200 union members, recently announced its support of David M. Hoovler’s campaign for Orange County District Attorney.

“(Our union) takes pride in their membership’s political education process with over 95% of their membership being registered to vote,” states the Local 17 support letter, written by Business Manager Todd Diorio. “We wish you success in the upcoming election and look forward to your support on issues that affect Local 17 members as well as all working people.”

Laborers’ International Union of North America - which fights for better wages and benefits, safer jobsites, and greater opportunity - is the most progressive, aggressive, and fastest-growing union of construction workers, and one of the most diverse and effective unions representing public service employees.

“It’s an honor to have received the support of Local 17,” Hoovler said. “I will work diligently to ensure all working people receive a fair wage as required by law, and that the conditions they work under are reasonable and safe.”

The Laborers’ Local 17 endorsement joins endorsements from unions representing firefighters and law enforcements officers, including Teamsters Local 445, Orange County Correction Officers Benevolent Association, New York City Uniformed Fire Officers Association Local 854, City of Newburgh Professional Firefighters Association 589, City of Middletown Professional Firefighters Association, and police benevolent associations in the Town of Wallkill, the City of Newburgh, the Town of Deerpark, and City of Beacon.

Hoovler is also the endorsed candidate of the Orange County Republican, Independence, and Conservative parties, allowing him to appear on three ballot lines in November.

Hoovler’s well-defined platform has been very well received, and includes:
• tailored investigations to tackle drugs and gangs in Orange County’s three cities,
• aggressive prosecution of fraud,
• pursuit of defendant rehabilitation,
• and increased communication with each municipality’s stakeholders, including elected officials, non-profits, schools, and law enforcement officials and rank and file.

Hoovler is a former police detective in Prince George’s County, Maryland, a former trial attorney with the United States Department of Justice, Criminal Division, and a former Assistant District Attorney in Bronx and Orange counties. He currently works as a defense attorney at Ostrer & Hoovler, P.C. in Chester, where he is also a partner.

Supporters – regardless of political affiliation – are encouraged to join the Hoovler Campaign for an upcoming Clambake at the Lake at Murphy’s Tavern in Greenwood Lake on Sunday, July 28 at 1 p.m. For more information visit www.davidmhoovler.com or www.facebook.com/davidmhoovler, or email support@davidmhoovler.com.
