Egypt to Restrict Phthalates in Toys and Childcare Products

July 8, 2013 - PRLog -- In April 2013, the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality (ESO) informed the World Trade Organization (WTO) that they have adopted the mandatory standard ES 7562/2013 ‘Restriction on the use of phthalates and their derivatives in toys and childcare articles’ (1).

The standard is mandatory and complies with the former European Directive 2005/84/EC (Annex XVII of Regulation (EC) 552/2009, REACH). The standard also provides guidance on the interpretation of the concept ‘which can be placed in the mouth’.

The standard ES 7562/2013 is obligated by Ministerial Decree No. 92/2013 and has a 6-month transitional period, from 24 February 2013 to 24 August 2013 (2).
