"Over Here, Over There" presents both the wartime experiences of early Americans and the oral histories of modern veterans, and marks the beginning of Houston's multi-month Veterans in Our Community Film Festival and Speaker Series, hosted by San Jacinto College. Produced in honor of the 150th anniversary of Gettysburg, and originally recorded live in front of a Houston audience on the afternoon of July 3rd, 2013, "Over Here, Over There" is an hourlong audio play with sound effects. Its story takes listeners from the Revolutionary War and the start of the United States, all the way to modern veterans' experiences in recent conflicts like Iraq and Afghanistan. The story incorporates historic letters from luminaries like John and Abigail Adams, and William Travis. Letters by Confederate veterans John T. James, and Joseph Graham, who witnessed Pickett's Charge at Gettysburg, are also featured, as well as the stories of survivors of the "Indian Wars". Listeners also hear real life experiences of veterans from all five armed forces, describing their experiences in World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan. "Over There" was originally developed for the National Audio Theatre Festivals in 2009 by Dr. Eric Somer and Meredith Ludwig, and now features a half hour of new material written by Patience Wieland. Directed by well-known children's playwright Dr. David LeMaster, who also narrates, the cast features many Texas-based voiceover and theatrical actors: Sylvia Armendariz, Luke Hales, Roxann Hixon Hales, Chyree LeMaster, Rose Pulido, Jane Stimpson, Justin Thomas, Bruce Williamson, and Brian Woodward. Listeners can hear the audio play by tuning in Sound Stages Radio, at http://www.soundstagesradio.com, 7:15 and 11:05 PM EST July 7, and 9:00 PM July 10th. End
