SURREY, British Columbia - July 3, 2013 - PRLog -- South Surrey White Rock Minor Softball Association (“SSWRMSA”) played host to the 2013 Pee Wee “C” Regional Championship Tournament held at beautiful Sunnyside Park in Surrey British Columbia on the Canada Day long weekend.

Teams representing fastpitch softball associations from Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Cloverdale, Fleetwood, Langley, Mission, North Langley, Ridge Meadows, South Surrey and Surrey battled for the regional championship title.

The championship game between the Ridge Meadows Bombers coached by Scott Mitchell and the Chilliwack Elite coached by Lianne Scott took place on Monday July 1st in front of a large crowd of softball players, parents and fans at Sunnyside Park.

The Ridge Meadows Bombers held off a surging Chilliwack Elite in the 7th inning to claim the 2013 Pee Wee “C” Regional Championship title.  The Elite entered the bottom of the 7th inning trailing by five runs.  After scoring 3 runs and putting the tying run on base, Bombers pitcher Hannah Trampleasure snagged a ground ball and with a throw to Hanna Pahl at first secured the third out and the championship for the Bombers by a score of 12 to 10.

Bombers coach Scott Mitchell commented, "I am so proud of my team.  They are "Back to Back Champs" because we also won the Squirt C Regional's last year. Maddie Schmidt pitched awesome all weekend and pitched 7 innings in the semi-final to get us to the final. Hannah Trampleasure pitched awesome all weekend as well and pitched 7 innings in the final to capture the win. We lost one of our catchers due to injury so Halle Mitchell caught 24 straight innings on Monday."

The Chilliwack Elite had previously advanced to the finals after defeating the Ridge Meadows Bombers 13 to 5 in an earlier qualifying game. The Bombers rallied from that loss and won a spot in the finals and a rematch against the Elite after a victory over the Abbotsford Troublemakers in the second qualifying game. The Abbotsford Troublemakers fell to the Bombers 6 to 4 but they did not go home empty handed after capturing the bronze medal.

Chilliwack Elite coach Lianne Scott after her team captured the silver medal commented,"I was extremely proud of the way the girls played.  They played great both offensively and defensively. They kept errors to a minimum over the 8 games and that's what I always say to them, you minimize the errors you win games.  Our pitcher Teigan Ritchie worked incredibly hard for us, having to pitch all 8 games as our other pitcher Kyneesha Kingdon had an injury at the start of our second game. Teigan went the distance for us and truly showed us what endurance she has.  We had homerun hits by Jordyn Scott, Teigan Ritchie and Sydney Redden.  A big success over the weekend was having Kourtney Trill hit multiple times after struggling all year to have a hit.  To see the excitement in her face at the success she was having was what makes coaches keep coaching. Great Tournament Elite. And as always a very well run tournament by the SSWR association and we thank you for hosting."

Congratulations to all of the teams that competed in the regional championship tournament from the South Surrey White Rock Minor Softball Association tournament organisers and executives!
