Safe Ways To Whiten Or Bleach Your Skin

Whitening or bleaching your skin is potentially dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. It's very important to choose the right chemicals as making a mistake can cause serious problems.

July 2, 2013 - PRLog -- A friend of mine has a skin condition known as vitiligo or hypopigmentation. This causes large patches of white skin without any pigment in it.

She is very self-conscious about this, and has been looking for ways to safely cover up or even out her skin.

One very famous person who had this condition was Michael Jackson. He made the decision to bleach his skin white, using a prescribed cream containing hydroquinone.

In many countries of the world, creams containing this chemical are banned, because it can cause some serious side effects when used for extended periods of time.

For example, it can cause thickening of the skin, and can cause blue and brown bruises to appear. It's not recommended that anyone use this substance long term, but in order to maintain the whitening effects, you do have to continue to apply it every few months, as the skin cells die and replace themselves.

This is why it's not advisable that anyone take a cream like this. It's only available on prescription, and only in some countries, and most doctors have heard of the side effects and so it's not really an option for the treatment of conditions like hypopigmentation at all.

You also have to be aware that there are some creams being sold online that contain mercury, which is obviously a terrible poison as well, even worse than hydroquinone.

There's actually quite a few products being sold online that are dangerous, don't work, or both. Look out for anything that says you can whiten your skin by taking a pill, that's just wrong.

Safe Skin Whitening Treatments

There are some good ways to treat a condition like this, you should start by trying the most mild solutions first, just to see if it makes a difference.

Lemon juice or vitamin C has been shown to have some effect in depigmentation of the skin, but only a mild effect.

Ginger and turmeric have some effect as well, although these homemade remedies only have a very mild bleaching effect, they won't turn you completely white.

If you have a very serious case of hypopigmentation or the opposite condition hyperpigmentation, (where patches of dark skin occur), then you will need a stronger bleaching agent.

The best advice is that arbutin will work effectively to bleach your skin completely white while also being relatively free of any side effects.

It is considered to be fairly harmless, and so it is sold over the counter in most countries. Glycolic acid also works effectively, and is also an over the counter medication.
