MINNEAPOLIS - July 1, 2013 - PRLog -- Isuroon is a dedicated advocate for those who seek education, communication and culturally specific health care. The 2013 Minnesota Somali Women’s Health Symposium presented by Isuroon is a chance for all community members to gather and have the much-needed conversation about health issues in Minnesota’s diverse communities. Isuroon invites you to attend what will be a very interesting commentary on culturally specific concerns in the black community.

On August 16, 2013 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. join Isuroon and community stakeholders for an in-depth look at the systemic reasons for poverty, health care gaps and economic concerns affecting women of color in Minnesota. The event will be held in the auditorium of Sabathani Community Center located at 310 East 38th Street in Minneapolis. The event will host a panel of local experts, politicians and special keynote speakers.

Isuroon is a culturally appropriate education, communication, and advocacy organization for Somali women. Founded in 2010, the agency operates on the principle that Somali culture emphasizes different values about medicine, health, and illness than Western medical traditions.

Somali women’s perceptions and understanding of the origin and meaning of wellness, illness, and recovery can be major factors in the effectiveness of the health care process. The ultimate goal of Isuroon is to provide Somali women with educational and informational resources to ensure that their cultural and spiritual traditions effectively interact with Western medical practices.

This event is free and open to the public. Vendor and sponsorships are still available by calling Isuroon at (612) 821-2398.
