Matthews Gallery to Hold Online Art Auction

SANTA FE, N.M. - June 29, 2013 - PRLog -- Lawrence and Linda Matthews, owners of the Matthews Gallery on Canyon Road, began planning their first online-only art auction nearly a year ago. One summer later, the gallery is making final preparations for a July 25-29 auction featuring work by contemporary artists and notable 19th and 20th century masters. At a time when e-commerce has become an increasingly attractive option for art collectors, the auction extends the gallery’s online presence further into the digital realm to connect with with even larger numbers of collectors around the world.

“This is a very exciting extension of our gallery operation,” says Lawrence. “In addition to the contemporary artists that we represent we show historically significant artwork by such notable artists as Pablo Picasso, Paul Gauguin, Toulouse Lautrec and Mary Cassatt. Our new online auctions will allow us to reach to a larger international audience that may be interested in living artists as well as the European and American masters.”

“Our gallery shows work including the European and American modernists, the
founders of the Santa Fe and Taos art colonies, as well as artists that live and work in the US today,” Lawrence says. “It seemed only natural that the auction would trace a similar arc and we will be offering works for sale from all those categories.”

The auction will take place on a special web domain, to be announced by the
Matthews Gallery in the coming weeks. Participants will have the opportunity to
register on the site before bidding opens July 25, and will be able to bid through July 29.
