It’s not “Fahrvergnügen” at the 17th Annual Biergarten Festival

The New Word is “Frühschoppen,” Along with Live Music, Authentic German Food, Dancing, Schuhplattler, Beer and “Kinder” Activities

DENVER - June 28, 2013 - PRLog -- Denver, Colo.  – According to Joshua Seeberg, executive director of the Denver based German American Chamber of Commerce (GACC) in Colorado, last year’s markedly increased attendance at the Chamber’s annual Biergarten Festival (www.BiergartenFest.com) encouraged the organization to add a Sunday German style brunch to the event. In Germany, “Frühschoppen” is generally a gathering in a pub on Sunday morning, traditionally after church services. This usually includes great conversation while enjoying a Bier or glass of wine and often something to eat. Seeberg further explained that “Frühschoppen” at the Biergarten Festival will include a tasty German buffet brunch by Chef Neuhold and light jazz played in the background by the House Blend Jazz Ensemble. House Blend was well received at the 2011 and 2012 Denver Christkindl Markets, and Seeberg is delighted they are available. Hours for the Sunday Frühschoppen are from 10 am to 2 pm.

The 2013 Biergarten Festival opens at 4 p.m. on Friday, July 12, 2013, with the ever popular Helmut Fricker and The Rheinlanders performing until closing at 10 pm. On Saturday the Biergarten opens at 11 am with Rick Borger and his Average German Band performing until 4 pm. After the Bratwurst eating contest at 4pm, the Austrian Connection begins their audience-engaging performance at 5 pm until closing at 10 pm.  The TEV Edelweiss Schuhplattler (www.TEVEdelweiss.org)  will perform periodically throughout the festival.

Location for the Biergarten Festival is the TEV Edelweiss Pavilion, at 17832 Highway 8, Morrison. Seeberg noted that last year’s event drew some 2,200 visitors. He advises those coming to the event to watch for the Biergarten Festival banner on the east side of Highway 8 about half way between The Fort restaurant and the Town of Morrison.

The event is produced in the spirit of the traditional Biergartens found primarily in southern Germany since the 19th century and is a fundraiser for the GACC’s programs. Adult admission is $8 for the day on either Friday or Saturday. Children under 12 years are free. Advance ticket purchases are available at www.Biergartenfest.com.

Family oriented, the festival offers great authentic German food, a Biergarten, live music and dancing. Featured performers include three German style bands with traditional German music for “Kinder” of all ages, the award-winning TEV Edelweiss Schuhplattler dancers (traditional Bavarian dancers) and a children’s activities area featuring games designed especially for them. Children attending the festival will enjoy the chance to try some traditional German games such as Eierlaufen (egg races), Sacklaufen (sack race), Ringhuepfen (ring hopping race) and Torwandschiessen.  On Saturday the Colorado Rapids mascot will again entertain “Fussball” (soccer) fans.

The German food will be provided by the award winning Chef Neuhold and his crew from Fort Collins. Some 90,000 visitors to the 2012 Denver Christkindl Market (www.DenverChristKindlMarket.com) enjoyed his cuisine. All the Bier at the festival is brewed in Munich according the German Beer Purity Law of 1516. Offered are three varieties of Bier by Paulaner and one from Hacker Pschorr, both very respected German breweries. There will also be red and white wines as well as soft drinks and water.

New this year is Frieder Frotscher offering a wide variety of quality Biersteins; he was a vendor at the Denver Christkindl Market as was Bob’s Roasted Almonds who will return this year.
