Director of Pulse OX - An iPhone App Built by Innoppl Recived HealthCare Hero in Award May, 2013

June 28, 2013 - PRLog -- Children's Hospital Dr. Mathew Oster received the Health Care Heroes Awards under the category "Health Care Innovation" by the Atlanta Business Chronicle held on May 16 2013, at the Cobb Energy Centre, for the work on the Pulse OX iPhone App built by Innoppl.

Health Care Heroes Awards is an event honoring the best organizations and individuals who excelled in the field of health care. Community health care, doctors and other allied professionals are saving many lives from deadly diseases and finding a cure for the same. Award winners selected under the categories: Allied Health professional, Community Outreach, Healthcare Innovation, Lifetime Achievement, Military Service, Physician and the Rising Star. The Pulse OX tool is recommended for newborns to disclose a critical congenital heart disease. American Heart Association (AHA) and American Academy of Pediatrics have recognized the algorithm used in the app.

Oster said that, they were concerned about the misuse of this algorithm and added that the error in calculating the algorithm using computer is far less than computing it manually.

Babies with heart defects do not show any symptoms during the birth but the symptoms are expected to show after 1 or 2 weeks, but the test using this tool will find out at the early stages or even at the time of birth.

The test is easy to perform by medical standards using this free Pulse OX app and the results are easier to interpret. Thanks to this app, the screening is helpful to identify the threatening heart disease at the early stage in the infants.

"It was a great opportunity for me to expand my research and establish into practice," said Dr. Matt Oster. Speaking about the tool and the reach around the country, he said that recently he has presented the reports from the tool to American college of Cardiology in San Francisco. Moreover he is getting good feedback about the tool and the people using it are appreciating about the idea of using the algorithm in a free mobile app. He happily added that, the Pulse Ox tool has provided him an opportunity to make a research into practice.
