Hotel Construction Rebounds: Zip-UP Ceiling® Offers an Economical Ceiling in Guest Bathrooms

Zip-UP Ceiling is Very Durable, Extends Life Cycle Costs Compared to Alternative Replacement Ceilings

NORFOLK, Neb. - June 27, 2013 - PRLog -- Norfolk, Nebraska, USA, - After half a decade of decline, hotel construction in the U.S. is rebounding, thanks to revitalized interest in travel and other factors in the economy. There's a jump in the number of rooms active in the hotel development pipeline and also a healthy number of hotels that changed ownership last year.

As of February 2013, according to the STR Pipeline Report, there are over 2,700 projects totaling over 320,000 rooms active in hotel development pipeline, a 10% jump up from the same month the previous year. As for actual construction - that was up more than 35% over the previous year, with rooms in luxury hotels up 67%.

Also healthy - the number of hotels that, according to Lodging Econometrics, changed ownership in 2012 is 1,342, which translates to 183,000+ guest rooms. Those numbers could certainly bode well for renovation contractors who might be called into action to renovate rooms that warrant updating.

With the potential, there will likely be a lot of renovation coming down the line.

Zip-UP Ceiling® is an economical and aesthetically pleasing alternative to acoustic or drywall ceilings in guest room bathrooms, food prep areas, commercial kitchens, receiving docks, and other open ceiling spaces where aesthetics, low maintenance and easy access to overhead wiring and plumbing are important. The Zip-Up Ceiling System, which provides a flat, grid-free washable surface, assembles in six easy steps with just a few components and tools.

Zip-UP Ceiling is comprised of durable interlocking PVC panels and rails and meets Class A Fire Rating. The surface is paintable, impervious to water and mold- and mildew resistant, and unzips for cleaning and access overhead. The system saves on lifecycle costs compared to acoustic and drywall ceilings which have to be replaced when moldy from dampness or water. The manufacturer warrants that the system is free from defects in manufacturing,  materials and workmanship for 25 years from the date of purchase and that the components will continue to zip together for that time. The product does very well when evaluated for life cycle costs compared to alternative replacement ceilings.

The E-shaped wall trim attaches to walls around the entire periphery. The main rail runs the length of the room or space and attaches to the joists. The panels, which are the visible surface of the system, zip into the rails (and unzip for access and cleaning). The installation is much easier than conventional drop ceilings. The ceiling drops down only two inches, saving headroom. Contractors have noted that installation of Zip-UP Ceiling can take just half the time as the closest competitive system.

Zip-UP Ceiling comes in two finishes and colors. These are smooth and serrated, and white and beige. The panels are paintable with latex paint (and high-gloss will enhance light reflection). The main rails and panels come in 8', 12' and 16' lengths, the wall trim in 8' and 12' lengths, and seam trim in 12' lengths. The panels are 1' wide.
