GLASGOW, U.K. - June 27, 2013 - PRLog -- Chalmit (http://www.chalmit.com), the hazardous area lighting specialist, has extended their range of LED lights with the new local area  Nevis LED bulkhead light (http://www.chalmit.com/more/on/details/00065).  Capable of 60,000 hours operation (more than 6.5 years continuous use) before needing re-lamping and with a typical output of 4058 lumens, the luminaire is designed for long life with low running cost, reduced CO2 impact and requires only minimal maintenance.

Long life materials are used throughout.  The enclosure is die-cast in LM6 high purity, corrosion resistant alloy to resist the ravages of marine environments.  A toughened glass lens, with optional wire guard, and long-life stainless steel fittings complete the unit which is IP67/67 rated for ingress protection, effective even in areas subject to salt spray and needing frequent wash down.

ATEX approved and IECEx compliant, the flameproof, increased safety, light is built for offshore operation in hazardous areas of Zone 1 and Zone 21 classification.  Easy access for two M20 cables is provided via a side-mounted increased safety terminal chamber.  This reduces installation cost and complexity and avoids the need for separate fireproof cable glands.

With a total depth of only 200mm, the unit is suited to low profile applications and can be mounted on ceilings, walls, handrails and poles.  Developed for world-wide applications, the Nevis will run on 100 to 277 Volts AC at 50/60 Hz.

In addition to high light output, long life and low energy consumption, the Nevis LED bulkhead has further specific benefits.  Unlike many conventional light sources, output is not diminished at low temperature; the Nevis will work down to minus 55 degrees C.  The use of LED’s also gives a much whiter light, with a colour temperature and rendering comparable to natural daylight.

The Nevis Bulkhead is just one of a family of LED based increased safety lights from Chalmit that meet the needs of marine and hazardous areas.  Solas is an emergency floodlight capable of either mains operation or emergency operation from an in-built power supply and delivering 3300 lumens comparable to 2x36 Watt fluorescents.  NexLed is a unit that has been successfully in use in extreme conditions since 2005, offering 500 lumens with mains or battery operation and optional exit sign for installation over the lens.  Completing the LED range is Nexus II, a low power Zone 2 bulkhead light ideal for access illumination.

Chalmit products are available world-wide. Sales and technical support is available from the manufacturing facility in the UK and via the international sales offices.  Full product specifications are given on the web site at  www.chalmit.com/more/on/details/00065.
