Walker Marketing volunteering at Special Olympics 2013

COLUMBUS, Ohio - June 26, 2013 - PRLog -- This Saturday, Walker Marketing and Consultants will be volunteering at the Special Olympics games held at  the RPAC on The Ohio State University's campus. We wanted to learn a little bit more about the organization and thought we would share it with everyone else.

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

The Special Olympics began in the late 1960s with Eunice Kennedy Shriver, who interestingly enough is the mother of Maria Shriver (former wife of Arnold Schwarzenegger) and sister to former President JFK. Growing up, she saw the great physical ability of her intellectually disabled sister, Rosemary, but not enough opportunity for her to use it.

Special Olympics not only gives intellectually disabled children and adults an opportunity to use their athletic talents, but it also has a great impact on their health, well-being and ability to participate in society.

So, visit the Special Olympics Website to find out how you can get involved through donation, fundraising or volunteering.
