By: Lake Geneva Area CVB “While we have many activities year-round, Independence Day is a particularly special time in the Lake Geneva Area,” said Grace Eckland, marketing & PR director, Lake Geneva Area Convention & Visitors Bureau. “The combination of the summer weather, the beautiful lake and the numerous spectacular fireworks shows results in wonderful experiences and lifelong memories.” Visitors can get a jump-start on the star-spangled festivities on June 29 by taking advantage of Lake Lawn Resort’s almost two miles of shoreline on Delavan Lake for the Delavan Township pre-Independence Day celebration with concessions, and fireworks at 9:30 p.m. For a unique way to recognize July 4th, Lake Geneva Cruise Line offers several Family Fireworks Tours: on July 3 aboard the Walworth with live music from Big Al Wetzel, and also on July 3 aboard the Duchess – both deliver prime viewing spots for the Lake Geneva Country Club fireworks that evening. And on July 4, the Lady of the Lake lets cruisers take advantage of a front row seat to the Village of Fontana fireworks. Reservations are required, as boats sell out. On the Fourth of July, Grand Geneva Resort and Timber Ridge Lodge are hosting events all day, including a lakeside Jumping Castle, carnival games, golf specials, a water ski show, the Embers Terrace dinner event and the Grand Fireworks display at dusk. The Geneva National Resort presents a barbeque, live music, children’s activities and games and fireworks at dusk. The Abbey Resort is also hosting an entire day of fun on the Fourth of July, including live music by David Harlan and Big Al Wetzel, children’s activities, summertime food and beverages and fireworks in 3D overlooking Abbey Harbor at dusk. Plus, Old World Wisconsin, a Wisconsin historic site in Eagle, Wisc., injects an old-fashioned flair into this patriotic holiday, with a Community Band concert with songs from the early 20th century farm and rural life, a Grand Parade, a greased pole climb, an egg toss and a traditional tug-of-war with the site’s oxen team. This year, bypass the usual routine and create an exciting new Independence Day tradition in Lake Geneva. Today, the elegant, often historic estates still ring the lake and can be viewed from the water or by foot via the 21-mile walking path that circles the lake. Lake Geneva boasts a wealth of dining options and lodging choices with the latter ranging from luxury spa resorts to rustic inns to lovely B&B’s. The area also offers pristine nature areas and a wealth of attractions. For information on Lake Geneva, honored as one of the National Trust for Historic Preservation’ End
