WASHINGTON - June 25, 2013 - PRLog -- The DC Black Theatre Festival, a week-long festival celebrating the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, is proud to present Secrets of a Kept Woman at the Ira Aldridge Theater/Howard University at 2455 Sixth St. NW, Washington, DC 20059 on June 28, 2013 at 7 p.m.

On the play’s opening night in Auburn, Alabama many people did not know what to expect of this production. However, the performance was received with zealous enthusiasm in front of a packed house and proved to be very powerful with an amazing cast and crew. Since its debut, the play has performed at the 14th Street Playhouse at the historic Liberty Theatre in Georgia.

Sharing with readers her intimate journey of creative expression, Shani Greene-Dowdell is dedicated to bringing her talent for writing, producing and directing to a broad audience in an effort to bring her vision to life while affecting the lives of all who experience the “Nayberry” journey. In 2007, Shani took a spirited interest in writing and has since published two novels and 3 anthologies. She is the recipient of the 2008 Self-Published Author of the Year, 2010 Pink Diamond Affair Honoree and in 2011 was given the Key to the City of Tuskegee, AL.

Shani has a true passion for theatre arts and is honored to bring her production to Washington DC. “It is my hope that the play will help women take a hard look at their relationships and strive to build better ones. I also want to show the challenging side of relationships, because domestic violence statistics show that around the world, at least one woman in every three has been beaten, or otherwise abused in her lifetime," says Shani Greene-Dowdell.

"Secrets of a Kept Woman explores what happens when the lines between friendship and betrayal are crossed,” wrote Naiomi Shuemate, CEO of Imoian Press.  This stage play, while unsettling at times and comedic at others, offers a powerfully honest look at the thoughts, emotions, decisions, and challenges facing women in today’s society.
