Relay for Life of Winter Haven 2013

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - June 25, 2013 - PRLog -- WINTER HAVEN, FL –This is the 2^nd year the Brooks Law Group put a team together for the Relay for Life of Winter Haven. The Relay for Life is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society (ACS) which provides funding for Cancer Prevention Research in an effort to eliminate Cancer. This year, it was held at Lake Region High School in Eagle Lake on April 19^th and April 20th.

The Brooks Law Group’s team, “Team Brooks,” had a goal to raise $2500.00. Last year, the team made it to the “Rising Star Level” of $1,000 and was awarded “Rookie of the Year.” This award was presented by the Relay for Life of Winter Haven Committee because the team joined the Relay only a couple months before the event and stuck it out, persevering to raise money until the deadline.  They are proud to announce that they made it to their goal of raising $2500.00 – making it to the “Bronze Level” of the established Team Fundraising Club Levels.

Brooks Law Group is a Personal Injury and Social Security Disability Law Firm with offices in Winter Haven, Lakeland, and Tampa, Florida. The firm was founded in 1992 and recently, in the past couple years, really started reaching out to the community in many different ways. The firm participates in the “Smoke on the Water” BBQ competition to raise money for the Citrus Center Boys and Girls Club and the Education Health and Wellness Expo.  The one event, however, that really touches their hearts is the Relay for Life of Winter Haven. Almost everyone on the team has had a family member or they, themselves have been affected by cancer in some way.

Fundraising for the Relay for Life of Winter Haven goes on all year-round. This year, “Team Brooks” held a few fundraising events. One successful fundraiser was team member, Rafael Martin’s “50 Mile Run.” That event alone raised over $1,000.00 for the team. The team also held a drawing for a 1 hour massage, held a yard sale, and car wash. There is also a lot of fundraising that goes on at the actual Relay itself. This year, the team sold flavored iced coffee – in the spirit of the all-night-long walk to fight Cancer.
