By: Emterra Environmental - Emterra Tire Recycling Emterra, a leading Canadian waste management company, has committed to donating up to $500,000 over the life of the initiative (2011-2018) based on recycling efforts of the community. The donations will be allocated to the Walker Family Cancer Centre through the Niagara Health System’s It’s Our Time Campaign. The community stands to benefit from improved cancer equipment and healthcare services, and the funds are welcomed by the St. Catharines based Walker Family Cancer Centre, which opened in March at the new hospital. "We are a recycling, waste-diversion company, so we thought how can we tie in our company mission with the hospital foundations'," In the first two years of the program, Emterra has presented donations in the amount of $36,500 and $39,365. Those donations are set to accelerate, as Leung announced Emterra’s industrial, commercial and institutional (ICI) customers will be invited to contribute by making a commitment to increase their recycling efforts to promote an often overlooked opportunity – increasing recycling in the workplace. At the same time, the participating community will be contributing to their overall quality of life by diverting recyclables that would otherwise be destined for landfills.
