Kris Warren Shows Support for Not-for-Profit Fighting AIDS in Ethiopia

CHICAGO - June 25, 2013 - PRLog -- On Thursday June 20^th 2013 Chicago entertainers, sports personalities along with local businessmen and women came out in force to support Awassa, an organization that raises funds to help children in Ethiopia who are dealing first hand with the effects of the AIDS virus.

The event, which included an auction and raffle was held at the Dikta Steakhouse, the eatery owned by the former Chicago Bears coach Mike Dikta. The proceeds from the evening went towards the Awassa Children’s Center, a Center that provides shelter, education and security for over 100 children who have lost their families to the worldwide epidemic.

In attendance was Chicago entertainer Kris Warren who became familiar with the work the charity does by Awassa member and singer/songwriter, Anita Oak.  “I was made aware of the good work done in Ethiopia for these children by Anita after she and I collaborated on a song for my last project, JUST MY THOUGHTS VOl.1.”

So much media attention is given to gossip and irrelevant news that good causes such as this fail to get the recognition they deserve. I think it is good to shed light on events like this fundraiser; events that truly can make a difference to the lives of others,” Kris explained.  

Speaking on the importance of the Children’s Center, Awassa supporter, Anita Oak explained “This is an exciting time for the Center as one of the very first children who Awassa has supported since it opened ten years ago is now graduating college as an engineer.”

Then entire Center is solar powered and now boasts a free vocational school for those that want to learn a trade and who get hands on experience building for the center. It is a win-win situation for such an incredible operation,” she concludes.

Items auctioned at the event on Thursday evening included memorabilia from local Chicago sports teams including the Chicago White Sox, the Chicago Wolves and the Chicago Cubs along with various donations from local businesses including jewelry, flowers, art lessons and movie tickets.
