Guildford College Group Invests In New E-Learning Technology

New e-learning employability course designed to help 16-18 year olds secure their first job
By: Marshall ACM

June 25, 2013 - PRLog -- The Guildford College Group has become the first college to commission Marshall ACM’s new e-learning employability course for students. According to a recent report from the International Labour Organisation, youth unemployment looks set to rise over the next five years, so the course has been designed and developed to help students increase their chances of finding work in a tough job market.

Aimed at students aged 16-18, the course has been tailored for the Guildford College Group by leading e-learning specialists, Marshall ACM, to meet the needs of the further education sector and is the result of two years of research and development. The course will be offered to students who attend the Surrey colleges that comprise the Guildford College Group.

The highly interactive course features rich graphics and audio-visual content and blends a variety of question types that can be used as part of the student induction, skills development or citizen-related programmes.

Those taking the course will be provided with greater awareness of the range of employment opportunities open to them, such as vocational and academic options. It helps them prepare for that all-important first job after leaving college, and gives them a better understanding of the importance of a positive attitude. It also highlights the importance of planning, appearance, good and bad work conduct and networking.

Jo Laybourn, head of careers, admissions and Guidance at the Guildford College Group says: “We already use Marshall ACM for our student online induction packages. When we heard it was moving into employability courses, we naturally wanted to be the first further education college to sponsor the project.

“Employability skills are at the core of everything the college offers and a highly interactive e-learning course with vital input from industry is a fantastic new resource to complement our existing state of the art career guidance facilities. The great thing about e-learning is we can ensure every student accesses the content and not just the ones that walk through the door of the career centre.”

David Marshall, founder and CEO at Marshall ACM says: “Increasingly employers want educational institutions to prepare their students both for the workplace and work placements and request employability skills. The new employability e-learning course helps address these issues and together with the excellent careers service offered at the Guildford College Group, we think it will prove a very useful tool to help students secure that all-important first job.”

The course is ideal for any institution looking to provide high quality employability training on a sophisticated e-learning system to its entire student body and its accompanying tracking system enables staff to easily check usage levels. Regular updates provided by Marshall ACM ensure that those buying the course have a version which contains the latest changes on such things as current legislation.

Marshall ACM has built the course on a platform that is used for training a corporate client based that includes the Bank of England, the University of Oxford, the NHS Confederation and Volkswagen Group.
