Smart Start Program Offers Heating & Cooling Incentives For NJ Residents

DENVILLE, N.J. - June 24, 2013 - PRLog -- Commercial property owners are encouraged to have an energy efficient audit performed on their property.  With available incentives and rebates from the state’s Smart Start program available, ensuring a business is utilizing energy efficient equipment can lead to federal tax deductions and other available incentives.

One of the simplest ways to achieve eligibility for Smart Start incentives is to utilize efficient heating & cooling units.  A Federal tax deduction of up to $1.80 per square foot is available for any commercial building that could reduce its overall energy consumption by 50% using various energy efficient equipment and measures (as compared to the original building energy consumption).

The New Jersey Smart Start program also offers:

•       Financial Incentives towards the purchase and installation of qualified energy efficient equipment including Prescriptive Lighting and Controls, High Efficiency HVAC Units, High Efficiency Gas Water Heaters and Boilers, and Electric Chiller Units. The incentive package is based on the level of efficiency of each piece of equipment.

•       For buildings 50,000 square feet or more, Financial Design Incentives are available to offset the project engineering fees related to the analysis of high efficiency alternatives. An initial incentive of $1,000 is available for a pre-design planning session, as well as $5,000 or more for the design simulation and modeling performed by a design professional to test the performance of the high efficiency alternatives.

•       For buildings 50,000 square feet or less, Technical Design Support is available to assist the design professional when considering the analysis of the high efficiency alternatives. Up to eight hours of design support is offered from a program design manager.
