ZyLAB Elastic Architecture Proves itself in high-profile eDiscovery Case

eDiscovery and Production setup benefits from 239 cores and over 60 virtual machines

BRACKNELL, U.K. - June 25, 2013 - PRLog -- Amsterdam, The NetherlandsZyLAB, leading eDiscovery (http://www.zylab.com/) and Information Management Technology Company, is pleased to confirm the successful deployment of ZyLAB’s eDiscovery and Production System for a multinational service provider, supporting leading enterprises in the financial and electronic industry. The deployment was setup and used to benefit 239 cores and over 60 virtual machines to collect, process, enrich, review and produce tens of Terabytes of data for one client.

One of the major challenges faced by the Service providers’ eDiscovery consultants, is the ability to accurately estimate the scope for a specific eDiscovery case. The volume of the Electronically Stored Information (ESI) that can be expected is largely unknown at the beginning of a project and the processing capabilities and capacities that are required to make the deadlines fully depend upon the volume and format of that data.

Professor Johannes Scholtes, Chief Strategy Officer of ZyLAB: “The processing of millions of scanned images requires very different functional capabilities to that required when processing large volumes of emails in Lotus Notes, NSF or Microsoft Outlook PST files. Processing data collected from file shares, Microsoft SharePoint, ERP, HR or financial systems, is another story altogether.”

An additional complication in any eDiscovery process is the fact that in different phases of the eDiscovery process, different types of eDiscovery capacity are needed. At the start of the process there will be a greater need for collection and processing, later in the process more capacity is required for review and production. Using ZyLAB’s elastic architecture in combination with automatic and manual load-balancing, the service providers’ consultants can optimize capacity use when and where it is needed most in order to meet the demanding eDiscovery deadlines.

Seamless Scalability

Professor Scholtes: “One physical computer may host ten virtual machines, each with its own logical core(s). While the CPU and RAM on the physical computer is finite, more hardware and processing power can be added to the architecture without interrupting the eDiscovery processing application, having to re-install the ZyLAB software or change its logical configuration. This enables multiple virtual machines to run seamlessly across multiple CPU’s.”

Actions including extracting meta-data, full-text indexing of files, Optical Character Recognition (OCR) processing of images, the unpacking and de-duplication of email or TIFF productions can all be spread across multiple virtual machines to accelerate the work, optimize the utilization of resources and remove bottlenecks in the process.
