Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce hosts Minister for Commercial Affairs

Discussion of Regional Business Development Plan and Beach Haven honor as America's Top Family Beach; the Minister of the US Embassy in Ottawa tours Long Beach Island businesses.

SHIP BOTTOM, N.J. - June 24, 2013 - PRLog -- The Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce has arranged a tourism and growth economy tour with Minister-Counselor for Commercial Affairs at the U.S. Embassy Ottawa, Richard Steffens. Mr. Steffens, a graduate of the Wharton School with a Masters in Government Administration from the University of Pennsylvania, is also an author of several books as well 50 articles on venture capitalism, technology and international business. He is responsible for overseeing U.S. Commercial Service operations in Canada, America’s largest trading partner. The U.S. Commercial Service in Canada is committed to advancing the goals of the National Export Initiative, which aims to create more and better paying jobs and enhance the U.S. economic recovery through the doubling of U.S. exports in 5 years.  This fits the timeline for the Southern Ocean County Chamber long term business development plan titled 2020 Vision which will begin this August. The visit also included International Trade Specialist Patrick Kenny from US Commerical Service with discussions at Surflight Theatre, The Galbes, Bay Village and The Southern Ocean County Chamber Visitor Center.

The Southern Ocean County Chamber’s Destination Marketing Organization has worked with tourism partners including the State of New Jersey to assist in Hurricane Sandy recovery which involved promoting the New Jersey shore to Canadian travel agencies and journalists. The Southern Ocean Chamber is also interested on Canadian involvement with the Choose New Jersey initative to attract investment to the area as they begin to roll out a Regional Business Development plan as part of the organization’s 100th Anniversary. Mr. Steffens’ visit to Ocean County is part of a broader reconstruction effort, but his visit organized by the chamber will feature Beach Haven businesses and officials as a partnership to promote the announcement that the resort town was named one of the top best family beaches in America by Family Vacation Critic this month.
