Linstroth, Bickford, Ray Victorious At All American Speedway

 
ROSEVILLE, Calif. - June 20, 2013 - PRLog -- This past Saturday night All American Speedway hosted round eight of the NASCAR Whelen All American Championship Series. The track hosted Student Appreciation night featuring the NASCAR Modifieds, Bombers, Late Models, Legends  and F4's. Saturday's temperatures were cool and the fans came out and were treated to a good night of racing.

First up were the NASCAR Late Models and division leader No. 44 Ron Chunn topped the charts in qualifying with a fast time of 14.022 seconds. Rookie No. 25 James Bickford stole the show in the trophy dash. An invert of six was drawn placing No. 7 Tony Mangini and No. 15 Jonathan Hale on the front row.  Hale took the early lead as Mangini fell back to third. Mangini and Chunn put on a good battle for third and Chunn got loose and fell back to fifth. By lap ten, Bickford dove to the inside of Hale and the two raced hard side by side for a few laps till Bickford edge him out for the lead. By lap 21, it was Mangini putting the pressure on Hale for second. The duo put on an exciting race to the end trading paint as the last lap approached them Hale got sideways in the last turn to hand over second place to Mangini. Bickford walked away to his second victory followed by Mangini, Hale, No. 16 Hayden Pederson and Chunn the top five.

Next up were the legends and No. 42 Chase Majic set fast time in qualifying with a time of 15.329 seconds. No. 92 Logan Zampa and No. 415 Matt Baxter each shared a heat race win and Zampa won the trophy dash. In the 35 lap main event, Baxter and No. 27 Zack Frazer started on the front row and Baxter took the early lead. On lap five, No.63 Cody Berger caught on fire in turn three causing a red flag. AAS officials quickly put the fire out and cleared the track for racing. Baxter continued to lead on the restart however it was short lived as Majic stole the lead on lap eight. Majic and Zampa put on a show for the top spot. Zampa got into turn four a bit hot causing him to spin for a last lap pass. Majic won, followed by No.7c Cameron Austin, Baxter, No. 8 Kieth Clement and Frazer the top five.

F4's took the track next with a season high ten cars and No. 52 Kody Szuh posted fast time in qualifying with a time of 17.030 seconds. Szuh also won the trophy dash and the 20 lap main event. followed by No.22 Keith Hopkinson Jr., No. 56 Matt Camp, No.76 Adam Chandler and No.7 Cyle Clayton the top five.

Modifieds were up next and No. 25 Jay Linstroth was the man to beat as he set fast time in qualifying with a time of 14.046 seconds. No.50 Gary Glenn and No.24 Scott Winters each shared a heat race win and No.03 Sheldon Didinger snagged the trophy dash victory. The six invert put No.77 Michael Mitchell and No.96 Mickey Lehman on the front row. Mitchell took the early lead but a yellow was thrown on lap threeforcing Mitchell to restart next to 3 time track champion Winters. Winters took the lead on the restart and  No. 5 Jason Bamberg followed Winters through for second as Mitchell got stuck at the bottom with no room to race.  On lap seven, No. 52 Matt Camp had brake malfunctions which resulted in spinning Didinger in turn four causing a yellow. Winters and Bamberg restarted the field as the two raced hard for the top spot. Bamberg lost the battle which allowed Linstroth to get by for second. Linstroth immediately dove to the inside of Winters and stole the lead on lap ten. Linstroth and Winters worked together to pick up ground over the field. A restart occurred on lap 31, which brought the field together again for some last lap battles. Linstroth maintained the lead as Winters tucked in behind him. With three laps to go, Winters blew a transmission handing second over to Bamberg. Linstroth sailed to a 1.937 second victory followed by Bamberg, No. 20 Scott Alves, Glenn and Mitchell the top five.

Last up for the evening were the roaring Bombers and divison leader No.77 Erik Ray posted fastest lap in qualifying with a time of 15.781 seconds. No.50 Richard Perez and No.7 Ed Taranto each shared a heat race win and No.63 Joe Rhodes won the dash. In the 35 lap main event, Rhodes and Perez led the field to the green flag and Perez took the early lead as Rhodes tucked in behind him. Rhodes lost his second place run to Ray on a restart as Rhodes got hung on the outside. In the closing laps, the top four battled for the lead as Perez got the worst of it handing the lead to No.24 Cody Rickard then to Rhodes and Ray was able to snatch it at the line. Followed by Rhodes, No.9 Harry Lambert, No.21 Matt Manolis and No.52 Mo Abhat the final five.

With round eight in the books the track will regroup for round nine this Saturday, June 22nd featuring Twin Modifieds events, Twin Street Stocks events BCRA Midgets and NCMA Sprints for the Placer County Fair Weekend.
