St. Lawrence University Communications Wins International CASE Award

June 20, 2013 - PRLog -- CANTON, N.Y. – An admissions publication produced by St. Lawrence University Communications has won an international award from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education.

The “Travel Piece,” which is mailed to prospective students and used by admissions officers at college fairs, received the Bronze Award in the “In-House Print Publications” category in the 2013 Circle of Excellence awards, CASE (http://www.case.org/) announced this month. In December, University Communications won a CASE District II Silver Award for the 2012 “Viewbook,” the University’s showcase admissions publication.

For the most recent award (http://www.case.org/Award_Programs/Circle_of_Excellence/2013_Winners/In-House_Print_Publications_2013.html), the judges said the photography and design reflected St. Lawrence’s “personality” and made the piece stand out. They also praised the publication’s content.

“The information was simple, need-to-know, and organized well into digestible chunks for young minds with short attention spans,” another judge wrote. “The captions were inviting, and (St. Lawrence) made good use of statistics.”

There were 35 entries in the “In-House Print Publications” category. The other winners in this category were the universities of Michigan, Central Florida, and North Carolina-Asheville.

The Circle of Excellence awards honor outstanding work in alumni relations, communications, fundraising and marketing at colleges, universities, independent schools and nonprofits.

This year, the competition received more than 2,900 entries for consideration in 45 categories. More than 600 member institutions and nonprofits from 18 countries participated.

“The Circle of Excellence awards provide an opportunity to recognize significant achievement in educational advancement,” said Brian Flahaven, director of legislative, foundation and recognition programs for CASE. “We continue to be amazed at the creative and innovative programs, publications and content being generated at CASE member institutions across the globe.”

St. Lawrence University is a private, independent liberal arts institution of about 2,400 students. The educational opportunities at St. Lawrence inspire students and prepare them to be critical and creative thinkers, to find a compass for their lives and careers, and to pursue knowledge and understanding for the benefit of themselves, humanity and the planet.
