SAN DIEGO, CA – As the effort continues to help improve the city of San Diego, over 200 Rock Church volunteers will help beautify two different locations, Robb Field in Ocean Beach and the Peninsula Family YMCA in Point Loma on Saturday, June 22, 2013. This “Rock Your City” project is the Rock Church’s second of the quarterly community beautification events this year. Over the past few years, Rock Your City events have taken place in various locations around the city. In 2012, the Rock Church contributed over 233,712 hours of community service to the City of San Diego, saving the city an estimated $ 4,095,983 million dollars. Last year, the Jackie Robinson Family YMCA was one of the sites for a Rock Your City event. Hundreds of volunteers came out to help with several projects around the facility. “Over 800 volunteers from the Rock Church have been here. They’ve been painting. They’ve been cleaning. They’ve been sprucing things up. But they have also been impacting kids and families from our community,” says Michael Brunker, the Executive Director of the Jackie Robinson Family YMCA, “and now you can spread the Gospel and use words if necessary.” This Saturday, the Rock Your City events will continue at Robb Field and Peninsula Family YMCA. Volunteers will be cleaning, landscaping, mulching and painting at the two locations from 7AM to 1PM. They will focus on landscaping and mulching at Robb Field and painting at the Peninsula Family YMCA. Additionally, volunteers for the Robb Field location must be 18 or older due to the work along Sunset Cliffs Blvd. Volunteers will need to bring their own tools, and the Rock Church encourages the community to donate landscaping tools to the project. If possible, please bring or donate the following tools: brooms, hand trowels, hoes, loppers, leaf rakes, pruning shears, rakes, flat-head shovel, pointed shovels, tree saws, and weed eaters. This beautification project is part of the Rock Church’s efforts to improve areas in the City of San Diego. Earlier this year, volunteers worked together to beautify the Park de la Cruz and Central Elementary School in City Heights. Volunteers landscaped around the facility. Ministries were present at the event, making their services available to the community. The Rock will host other events later this year that will benefit the community of San Diego. One of the most important events for the Rock Church is the Community Outreach event “Toys for Joy” which has helped over 35,000 children and their families since it began.
