Highland Street in the Clarendon District of Arlington will be transformed into an outdoor art gallery this summer when the Arlington Festival of the Arts debuts on June 22 – 23, 2013. Festival patrons can expect to see bold and vibrant paintings, contemporary and whimsical art, life-size sculptures, photography, handcrafted jewelry and much more. In addition, a Gourmet Food Truck Expo will be hosted by the Clarendon Alliance.  Admission to the art show is free and open to the public.

A true celebration of the arts, this two-day event will showcase the finest work of more than 150 leading artists in the country and will appeal to people of all ages including families, art enthusiasts and serious collectors looking for new and emerging talent. The artists will line North Highland Street from 13th Street North past Wilson Boulevard, Clarendon Boulevard and the metro station, and will end on Washington Boulevard. All artists will be on site for the duration of the show, available to discuss their art, techniques and inspiration.

An Art Giveaway will give festival patrons an opportunity to win original artwork by participating artists Connie and Jimmy Langford. This couple specializes in metal paying close attention to texture and color while creating very unique and bold works of art. The giveaway prize, a hand etched and colored 18” x 18” stainless steel wall sculpture titled “Going Wild With Color” is valued at $450.  It will be on display at their booth throughout the weekend where registration will also take place until 4:00 pm on Sunday when the winning ticket will be drawn. No purchase is necessary to participate in this giveaway.

Art shows produced by Howard Alan Events have the distinction of making the arts accessible to a broad audience with prices set to suit all budgets, from $25 hand-designed earrings to $50,000 metal sculptures. “The festival is an ideal setting in which to explore the work of many different artists in one location,” says festival promoter Howard Alan.  “You have the opportunity to meet and connect with the artist before making a purchase, which makes the investment much more meaningful and personal.”

A variety of Gourmet Food Trucks, located on Wilson Boulevard and Clarendon Central Park, will offer diverse menus including Crepes, Mediterranean and Vietnamese Cuisine, Seafood, Sandwiches, Salads, BBQ and many desserts.  The Food Trucks include Crepe Love Truck, KaftaMania, Lemongrass Truck, Curbside Cupcakes, SCOOPS2U Ice Cream, Red Hook Lobster Pound, Baba's Big Bite, Feelin' Crabby, and Carnivore. A variety of wines will also be available for purchase.

Participating artist Cheryl Summers will debut a new painting at the festival, Art of Arlington, which will be on display at her booth.  She has created a limited number of special edition 12"x17" prints of the original to be sold during the art show with 100% of the profits to benefit the Arlington Arts Center. To learn about this award-winning artist and explore her work go to www.artistcherylsummers.com.  Staff members of the Arlington Arts Center (AAC) will be present during the festival to provide information about their programs, exhibitions, and events. AAC serves as a bridge between artists and the public and its goal is to increase awareness and appreciation of, and involvement in, the visual arts in Arlington County VA and the region.
