PS Racing Takes Double Podiums in Asia Formula Renault Rounds 5&6

With this weekend’s qualifying for AFR Rounds 5&6 held under pouring rain on Saturday morning, PS Racing’s Pete Olson and Alexandra Asmasoebrata had a strong session by qualifying 3rd and 4th respectively. Teammate Neric Wei, in only his 2nd AFR weekend, managed to qualify 7th despite the adverse weather conditions.

With the track drying to a damp condition before Round 5 at 3:30pm on Saturday, PS Racing’s drivers went to slick tires – a gamble which paid off well as Olson finished 3rd overall and P2 in the International Category, with teammate Asmasoebrata 5th overall and 3rd in the International Category despite being hit from behind by another car in turn 7 on the first lap.

Newcomer Neric Wei showed strong improvements over the weekend and finished 2nd in the Asian Class.

Sunday’s Round 6 took place at 3:30pm under hot and dry conditions. With the starting grid for Round 6 determined by the finishing order from Round 5, Olson and Wei started in P3 and P4, with Asmasoebrata in 5th, on the 3rd row.

With good starts from the PS Racing drivers, and a fierce battle between teammates Olson and Asmasoebrata during the first few laps, eventually Asmasoebrata was able to pass Olson in T4, but spun a lap later in T1 due to oil on the circuit.

Pete Olson then finished 4th overall and 3rd in International Class, while Asmasoebrata finished 7th after her spin, with Neric Wei DNF.

After 6 rounds, Asmasoebrata is 3rd in the series, with Olson just one point behind, and Olson 7 points ahead in 3rd after the 2 race points drop. Neric Wei is currently 4th in the Asian Category and looking to finish in the top 3 for his debut season, with his continued improvement due to guidance from triple Formula Renault Champion Pekka Saarinen.

The next races, AFR Rounds 7&8, will be on September 13-15 at Zhuhai International Circuit during the exciting September Pan Delta Race Festival.
