June 18, 2013 - PRLog -- Zoë Kane, who is supported by north east disability charity Inspire and lives in Peterhead, won gold in judo at the 2013 Special Needs British Open Championships in Motherwell. Zoë, who attended Inspire’s training for employment programme Café Academy and is currently employed as a boccia coach with the charity, retrained in judo having previously won gold and silver medals in Shanghai’s Special Olympics for swimming in 2008 for team Great Britain.

Zoë, 24, tells more: “I have only been doing judo since last year, having taken an interest from my brother who does the same sport. I trained for a year for the competition in Motherwell, learning judo techniques, ground work and practice for fighting, and overcame three rounds of contests to win gold. Before judo, I swam for nine years resulting in my victories in Shanghai, so to change to judo was a huge challenge! I’d like to thank my mum and brother for supporting me and to everyone at Inspire too.”

Zoë is supported by local learning disability charity Inspire, who empower the life choices of children, young people and adults with learning disabilities and additional support needs in North East Scotland.
