Follow on Google News | Summer Reading Book Drive Collects 4,800 Books to Benefit North Texas Elementary School StudentsVickery Meadow Youth Development Foundation and Entrepreneurs For North Texas Partnered for Successful Summer Reading Book Drive
By: Power PR The book drive initially started as a result of research that indicated if children were given the opportunity to select their own books, they were more likely to read over the summer. And, children who read more over the summer are less likely to forget what they have learned during the school year. Fulfilling its mission to make it easy for small and mid-sized companies to be good corporate citizens, EFNT asked its Member Companies to hold book drives at their local offices across the Dallas metroplex. Thanks to the generosity of 300 employees from EFNT Member Companies – Telligent, Klemchuk Kubasta LLC, Montgomery Coscia Greilich LLP, Roach Howard Smith & Barton, Billingsley Company, Ultimate Health Matters, SevaYatra and Hazel’s Hot Shot – more than 1,100 books were donated. Monetary donations were also made to VMYDF to help buy additional books, totaling 4,800 summer reading books collected for elementary students. “Thanks to the participation of EFNT’s enthusiastic Member Companies and VMYDF, we were able to deliver books into the hands of hundreds of students at two local Dallas elementary schools last week,” said Community Involvement Strategist at Entrepreneurs For North Texas, Sejal Desai. “The generosity demonstrated during this book drive was truly inspiring.” Second and third grade students at Jack Lowe Sr. Elementary School and Lee A. McShan Jr. Elementary School celebrated the end of the school year with, as one student expressed, their “favorite day of the year.” During “Bookapalooza” “We are so grateful for the opportunity to team up with EFNT this year for what turned out to be one of our most successful summer book drives to date,” said Executive Director at Vickery Meadow Youth Development Foundation, Martha Stowe. “Our organization understands the importance of reading at home during the summer as a key to sustaining skills learned throughout the school year. And although providing a book may seem like a small act to some, the knowledge and encouragement that those books provide can open up a world of possibilities for these students.” EFNT and one of its Member Companies, Telligent, had employee volunteers present at the student book pick-up at Lee A. McShan Jr. Elementary School on June 5, in support of the summer book drive. Volunteers helped students choose books and discussed the importance of reading. “We are happy to help VMYDF and EFNT make a difference in the Dallas community. As CEO of an EFNT Member Company, I am inspired to see our employees’ taking time to volunteer and positively impact the lives of these children,” said Telligent CEO, Patrick Brandt. “The experience was so rewarding for our team – we are already thinking about how we can encourage even more participation next year.” About Vickery Meadow Youth Development Foundation (VMYDF) The Vickery Meadow Youth Development Foundation is dedicated to providing educational and enrichment opportunities to the 7000 children of the Vickery Meadow neighborhood in northeast Dallas.
