June 13, 2013 - PRLog -- The next in a long list of parades this summer in Chicago (http://www.conciergepreferred.com/chicago-festivals/5263-chicago-summer-parades-2013.html) is happening this Saturday, June 15 at noon. Dubbed the Puerto Rican People’s Parade, the event will move down the Paseo Boricua section of Division Street under the giant Puerto Rican flag from Western Avenue to Sacramento Boulevard, in a grand celebration of Puerto Rican culture. The Puerto Rican People’s Parade is the centerpiece in a weeklong celebration of Puerto Rican culture that’s centered around Humboldt Park, on the near northwest side of Chicago.

The Puerto Rican Parade Committee and the Puerto Rican Cultural Center, who, in other years, both put on competing parades, are putting on the event as a joint venture. The two marches the organizations previously conducted are being combined this year in the hopes of strengthening the event as a whole and to celebrate the event’s theme, Promoviendo Nuestra Cultura y Comunidad (Promoting Our Culture And Community.) Floats, notable members of the Puerto Rican community, Puerto Rican musicians and performers, will all be part of the festivities.

The march itself is actually just one aspect of the events going on this weekend in celebration of Puerto Rican culture. Most of the festivities will be held in Humboldt Park, (http://www.conciergepreferred.com/chicago-west/280-dir-ch...) the center of Puerto Rican culture and heritage in the Chicago area. The 31st annual Fiestas Puertorriqueñas kicks off with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 2 p.m. on Thursday June 13 and ends with a final performance at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 16.

The festivities will include plenty of vendors selling arts and crafts, hot and fresh food, and cold drinks. The festival will also showcase a number of local and international performers on a stage that will run nearly constantly during all four days of the party.
