Business Health Services Named One of Baltimore's Healthiest Employers

BALTIMORE - June 13, 2013 - PRLog -- BALTIMORE, MARYLAND – Business Health Services (BHS) has been named one of Baltimore’s healthiest employers by the Baltimore Business Journal (BBJ) during the paper’s annual Healthiest Employers Awards. The awards program recognizes Baltimore area employers who have taken extraordinary measures to promote health and happiness within the workplace. BHS ranked third among small companies in the region.

“We are honored to be selected as one of Baltimore’s healthiest employers,” stated Lindsay Frank, Wellness Implementation & Strategy Manager, BHS. “This is truly a team award, as both our wellness committee and executive leadership have made the BHS wellness program a top priority.”

BHS earns its recognition as one of Baltimore’s healthiest employers through the workplace wellness solutions it provides to both internal employees and external clients. The philosophy behind the workplace wellness solutions BHS provides to clients and employees alike is built on behavior modification and personal accountability. BHS’ internal wellness initiative delivers employees a versatile program, using several methods to inspire participants to take the necessary steps to overcome wellness obstacles and make healthy lifestyle changes.

A wide range of wellness-focused events and activities are offered on-site at BHS throughout the year to help motivate employees to make healthy changes, inspire team morale and create a “wellness buzz” in the workplace. Biometric screenings and a Health Risks Assessment (HRA) provide awareness of current health status and identify areas for improvement.

Other popular on-site activities include physical fitness classes, walking groups, health education seminars and preventive screenings. Wellness coaching, individual and team challenges and health consultations help to keep participants on track with healthy behaviors. The integration of an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and multiple mental-health related events provide a holistic approach to achieving overall wellbeing. The BHS internal wellness initiative currently has a participation rate of more than 80%.

“We are already planning for the future and working to develop new and exciting opportunities for BHS employees to further improve their health and wellness,” said Ms. Frank.

Several BHS clients were named Healthiest Employers at this year’s event in Baltimore: CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, KCI Technologies, Inc. and Stevenson University each received honors in their respective company categories. Another BHS client, the Philadelphia-based Educational Commission for Foreign Medial Graduates (ECFMG), was selected as a winner in this year’s Philadelphia Business Journal Healthiest Employers Awards.
