Follow on Google News | "I Slept With Joey Ramone - A Family Memoir" To Be Translated Into Portuguese And Released In BrazilWhile prevailing in those regards, his brother's life was a tumultuous journey - health hazards and turmoil beginning before he took his first breaths, and ultimately succumbing to lymphatic cancer in 2001 at the age of 49. In parallel, as he began to play music years before his older brother, Leigh's own life was, and continues to be, dotted with incidents and events far more dramatic than he'd ever expected - or, in some cases, desired. Mickey Leigh labored for six years writing this utterly compelling story of his and his older brother's lives - including the amazing journey that led to the genesis of the now legendary singer/songwriter. The result is a book he titled: I SLEPT WITH JOEY RAMONE. Vividly portraying his brother's band's career from inception to final performance, the story more focuses on the relationship between two brothers and family dynamics. That aspect of the book makes it equally appealing to fans of the Ramones as well as those completely unfamiliar with them. With a little help from Legs McNeil - a co-founder of PUNK magazine and mutual friend of the two brothers- the story Mickey Leigh wrote was published in the USA in 2009 - but, every story has a story: Unable to find a publisher in Brazil, a frustrated Leigh took a million to one chance in viewing a letter sent to him on the Joey Ramone Facebook page from an equally frustrated fan named Thais, asking him why the book had not been published in Brazil. After Leigh responded to the fan from Sao Paulo's letter, she offered to approach a few publishers she knew of on his behalf. The publishers at Editora Dublinense loved the English version of the book Thais had brought to them, and made the decision to put out a Brazilian edition. Amazingly, it was the offer of help from one of his brother's fans that facilitated the forthcoming release of Leigh's book in Portuguese. Praised by the press and cherished not only by Ramones fans but by lovers of truly inspirational stories in the US, Finland and France, where the book has already been published, Brazilians will finally be able to behold this endearingly realistic portrait of the man who struggled to find his voice, and of the brother who loved and encouraged him ...from the beginning, and all the way.
