Was it the Sudanese designer or the 18-year-old Saudi Arabian national?

Sudanese national Reyan Hanafi has been declared the winner of Persil Arwaa Abaya Competition Season 5 in the grand finale held this week. The competition, presented by Persil Abaya Shampoo, witnessed eight weeks of intense competition and amazing creativity in Abaya designs and saw a close contest between Reyan Hanafi and 18-year-old Saudi Arabia national Sara Alsaady in the finals.

The grand final ceremony, staged at Armani Hotel in Dubai, was the perfect culmination to a very interesting Season 5, which saw some outstanding talent over the last few weeks among all the eight talented designers and students.

In a first-of-its-kind format this year, all the participants stayed together throughout the duration of competition, and showcased their skills in designs as per the challenges posed to them by the jury. This was a unique platform by Persil Abaya Shampoo to help all budding designers to take the first step towards their careers in Abaya designing.

When the finalists came out on stage on the big day, noted TV personality and jury member Lojain Omran asked them on their next step in the journey. Of course, reaching the finals of the Persil Arwaa Abaya Competition Season 5 was no mean achievement for Reyan and Sara. This, however, was not the final goal, as both reiterated how the Persil Abaya Competition has put them on course in the fashion domain to achieve new milestones in the years to come!

Ultimately, it was Reyan who walked away with the deserving Persil Arwaa Abaya Season 5 first prize and a dream prize of an academic scholarship with a leading global fashion college in design, in addition to an internship with a famous Abaya designer Amal Murad. This was a complete life-transforming achievement, which is expected to catapult Reyan on the success path in fashion design.

Renowned fashion designer and expert Amal Murad was the mentor of the contestants and other jury included Lojain Omran – TV Personality and Anchor, fashion designer Sumayyah Al Suwaidi and Fatima Al Baloushi – representative from Zahrat Al Khaleej and Ana Zahra.
