READING, Mass. - June 12, 2013 - PRLog -- PHOTO: Bacci family of Reading, (from left) Abigail Bacci, Erin Calvo-Bacci, Sarah Bacci, Carlo Bacci, were named finalists for the Family Business of the Year Award by the Northeastern University Center for Family Business.

The Bacci family of Reading, owners of Bacci Chocolate Design and the retail arm The Chocolate Truffle, were named finalists for Massachusetts Family Business of the Year by the Northeastern University Center for Family Business, in the  small business category.

They were honored at a ceremony at the Northeastern University House in Weston, MA on Wednesday, June 5.

The Massachusetts Family Business of the Year awards program was created six years ago in a partnership between Northeastern University’s Center for Family Business and The Family Firm Institute New England Chapter, to promote and highlight achievements of Massachusetts-based, family-owned businesses and entrepreneurs. The program annually presents three family businesses, based on size, with Massachusetts Family Business of the Year Awards to recognize them for their successfully run and managed family businesses.

Recipients are selected by a panel of independent judges, based on business success, positive business and family linkages, multi-generational family involvement, contributions to the community and industry and innovative business practices or strategies.

It is the second time the Bacci family has received the honor.

The Bacci family owns Bacci Chocolate Design in Swampscott, and its retail arm, The Chocolate Truffle in Reading. Two of the family’s children, Abigail, age 12, and Sarah, age 10, work in the store and the factory.

Erin Calvo-Bacci stated, “It is an honor to be recognized, because even though our children are so young, they are really involved, and are an integral part of the business. It is important for them to hear they are valued, and to appreciate what we are all doing to survive, and at the same time, give them important lessons about employing people, community support, and responsibility.”
