WILMINGTON, Del. - June 11, 2013 - PRLog -- In September 2010, Delaware Humane Association (DHA) quietly initiated a capital campaign to raise funds for a state-of-the-art animal shelter and adoption center to replace the current 40 year old facility. Early on, DHA resolved to remain in the City of Wilmington and create a new home for the animals on its present site at 701 A Street.

Preparation for the new shelter began in April 2012, with soil delivered and stockpiled to the east of the present building. This soil then required time to compact to a desired consolidation, and grass was planted to help prevent erosion. After a long wait, we are ready to move to the next exciting step!

On Tuesday, June 25, 2013, as DHA celebrates its 56th birthday, we will break ground on The Tatiana and Gerret Copeland Animal Care & Companion Center. Construction will be ongoing for eight months to a year, and DHA anticipates moving into our beautiful new home between March and July 2014.

Help spread the word! It is not too late to support DHA’s capital campaign for a new shelter—we must raise approximately $80,000 to reach its goal of $3.1 million. Check out the options for making a gift at http://www.dehumane.org/newshelterdonate
