By: ES Communications While D”Atra is busy rehearsing her lines and promoting her latest CD, her management team is busy sorting through the plethora of invitations from casting directors. One of her latest projects the stage play, Cousins, premieres Saturday, June 15, 2013 at the USC Aiken Convocation Center in Aiken, South Carolina. D”Atra performs alongside Syleena Johnson and Tony Terry is sure to be a sellout. “I’ve been in this business a long time, I know what the audience is seeking in terms of performance and it is my motto to under promise and over deliver, every time,” says Ms. Hicks. D”Atra continues to build her legacy by pursuing both her acting and singing careers. Her music career also encompasses a rich history. During a performance, D”Atra enraptured Bruce Lundvall, president of Capital Records, who immediately signed her during intermission. Soon after, D”Atra released her self-titled debut album which placed on Billboard Top Albums chart. The album debuted at number 9 in September 1989, reached number 63 and lasted 10 weeks on the chart. Her first single "Sweet Talk" went to number 4 on the Billboard charts. This impressive entry into the R & B arena led to sell-out tours in Japan as a solo artist. D”Atra went on to score Billboard entries on T.D. Jake’s with the single penned by R. Kelly, “The Storm is Over”, which debuted at Number 1 on the Billboard Gospel charts (the album peaked at 56 on the Billboard Gospel Charts) and has collaborated with other artists to include Earnest Pugh, Freddie Jackson and Peabo Bryson on their projects. Just 15 days after appearing in South Carolina, Ms. Hicks will star in the stage play, Living Your Life, at the DC Black Theatre Festival in Washington, DC at the Sitar Arts Center on June 30, 2013.
