Microbial Contaminants & RWIs from Public Pools Discussed in New Online Video

PEORIA, Ariz. - June 9, 2013 - PRLog -- Today, the IAQ Video Network and Cochrane & Associates announced the release of another online video to help educate people about issues that may impact their health.  Their latest educational video discusses health issues associated public pools due to microbial contaminants causing recreational water illnesses (RWIs).

Since 1978, the incidence of recreational water illness outbreaks of acute gastrointestinal illness has substantially increased. Just recently, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released a report that found fecal matter in 58% of public swimming pools.  

Contrary to popular belief, chlorine does not kill all germs instantly.  “Most recreational water illnesses are caused by germs being spread by swallowing, breathing or having contact with contaminated water,” reported Paul Cochrane, President of Cochrane and Associates, the company behind the IAQ Video Network and the new public outreach video.  “RWIs can also be caused by chemicals in the water or chemicals that evaporate from the water and cause indoor air quality problems. We hope this online video helps to shed some light on arsenic and exposure routes.”
